Political and Economic Stability

Political Stability

Mauritius is regularly cited as one of the most politically and economically stable countries in Africa. According to the Africa Country Instability Risk Index, the island recorded the lowest score on the continent (17 on the risk scale), placing it in the “Safe” category in 2025. This position stems from strong institutions, peaceful political transitions, a multiparty system, and the absence of internal conflicts or significant regional tensions.

Mauritius faces no civil war, violent separatist movements, or major border tensions, which strengthens the confidence of both citizens and investors.

Economic Stability

The Mauritian economy recorded sustained growth of around 4.7% in 2024 and remains on a positive trajectory, driven by key sectors such as services, tourism, and finance. Inflation is largely contained within moderate ranges, contributing to macroeconomic stability.

Mauritius holds foreign exchange reserves covering several months of imports, a significant asset for coping with external shocks and maintaining market confidence.

The country does not rely on a single sector alone. In addition to tourism, it has finance, ICT, light manufacturing, and an emerging maritime economy, which enhances overall economic resilience.
